Led Zeppelin
Kings of their era, Led Zeppelin was, is, and always will be ranked near the top of the greatest, heaviest rock bands of all time. Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and John Bonham were the front-runners of hard rock and heavy metal. The year 1975 saw the release of Physical Graffiti, a massive critical and financial success that resulted in a wildly successful world tour. Plant’s involvement in a serious car accident derailed a tour in 1976, but the band returned to the road in 1977 with a North American concert run that set attendance records. Bonham’s death in 1980 led to the break-up of the band, though the remaining trio appeared for special events through the 1980s and Page and Plant participated in a later tour.
